About Home Visitation

First 5 LA’s program, Best Start LA, improves the lives of children, in the prenatal-through-three age group by strengthening families, communities and the organizations that serve them. As a way of introducing families to the wide range of services within a Best Start LA community, Welcome Baby! a universal home visitation pilot, has registered nurses or home visitors conduct a series of prenatal, hospital, and home visits to all new parents in the pilot area. These voluntary home visits provide new parents with important information about their child's development and connects them with available community resources.

LA Best Babies Network, in parntership with First 5 LA, oversaw the coordination and implementation of the Welcome, Baby! pilot program, building on the Healthy Births Initiative. First 5 LA awarded the Welcome, Baby! home visitation contract to Maternal and Child Health Access, in partnership with California Hospital Medical Center, who oversees the home visits.
