Information on demographics and health indicators are important and useful tools for communities in Los Angeles County. Data can be used to identify opportunities to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities and to monitor the success of our efforts for improvement. For example, data can be used to:

• Describe the characteristics of populations in specific communities
• Create public awareness about community issues
• Highlight strengths and weaknesses of programs
• Provide evidence of effectiveness of programs
• Justify the need for programs and funding
• Influence legislative policies
• Strengthen grant applications
